A vehicle fire disrupted traffic on the northbound lanes of 1604 North near the intersections of Culebra and Shaenfield earlier today. The blaze, originating from a light-colored Toyota Camry’s engine compartment, quickly escalated, enveloping the surrounding area in flames and smoke. Responding to the emergency were units from the San Antonio Fire Department, led by Firefighter B. Ortiz, and SAPD Officer Castillo, who coordinated efforts on-site. Despite the intensity of the fire, crews swiftly contained and extinguished the blaze, minimizing further damage.
Fortunately, eyewitnesses confirm that all occupants escaped unscathed, averting potential injuries. However, suspicions of foul play arose as SAPD Officer Castillo suggested the vehicle might have been stolen. Witnesses purportedly observed individuals abandoning the burning car and fleeing into another vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Arrival times from both SAPD and SA Fire Department were commendably prompt, ensuring a swift response to the incident. Thankfully, no additional incidents were reported in the aftermath. However, inquiries into potential suspects yielded no immediate leads, leaving the investigation, ongoing.
