“Why sir, what is this fist bump you speak of, and is it safe?” Maybe back in the day and I mean way back you could’ve sparked some sort of response as such. But in today’s society, there isn’t a single person who does not know about the fist bump.
Let’s start with the basics, shall we? First of all many people know what it is, but just because they do doesn’t mean they’ll always do it. You might get an occasional frown or brow cringe on the sheer sight of such a hand gesture, but what the hell right. Let’s have some fun. When doing the fist bump it’s always good to start with eye contact, a slight nod as a way to show someone that, “Hey, what’s up” or “Hey,” a friendly gesture indicating you are aware of that person and that you are glad to see them.
When going for the initial start off, don’t run, just simply move your arm in their general direction with your hand closed in a fist, (it’s not a fight or a competition about who hits harder either, take it easy). It’s really simple, let’s try it. Did you get it?… Great! If not don’t worry, you will.
Other forms of fist bumps
- The Flump is a fist bump and a high five instead
- The Turkey Bump is a high five and a hammer fist with the thumb out
- The Time Traveler, a handshake and a fist bump…because you eventually have to start over to get it right.
- The Gamer’s Knuckle, which is a fist bump while wiggling your thumb on the side of their fist…can you say awkward.
- The Galactic Wall are two fist bumps that do not touch, leaving about 2 inches of space between both fists in the process.
- The Jiggly Door Knob, well what in the world…it’s basically two fist bumps and then someone grabs the other’s fist and jiggles it back and forth…seriously?
So let’s not be these people unless you are with someone who knows the so called lingo and knows which fist bump is appropriate. Fist bump in safety and always use a great smile.
